I guess in all fairness this post should be titled the White, Alexander and Grumman Debacle(s) but that is entirely to long. The six of us have had numerous nights out where some sort of issue happens...Today we'll discuss two..."The Super Bowl Bill" and "The Missing Cab"
February 1, 2004, the six of us head "uptown" to find a bar to watch the Super Bowl between the Carolina Panthers and the New England Patriots. We settle in at
Ri-Ra's at a table right in front of the
TV. The Ladies decide we should keep a running
tally on how much alcohol we consume, we figure it's very busy and we'll end up being charged a couple drinks we didn't buy....oh plus Dave and Andy were coming and they had a
tendency to buy themselves drinks on others..
First Half is complete, we all have a decent buzz going and the ladies have the
tally up to date. The guys have had the most to drink, we'll say 15 beers, while the girls have had about 9. We decide to take a few shots, some blue potion that probably contained zero alcohol. I would say we took two rounds, which would equal 12.
End of the game...Panthers lose, somewhere Kent rejoices that his boyfriend Tom Brady has won another championship, we take more blue shots...and decide it's probably time to call it a night. At this point the ladies haven't really been drinking heavily, the guys, well, we know we watched a football game. The bill arrives
The Bill!!!!!!!is 525.46 (guesstimate)...Adrianne and Kate freak...the guys still don't know what is going on. The
tally according to
Ri-Ra idiot server, again guesstimate (4 years ago is hard to remember), was 95 beers and 42 shots...which is 15 beers and 7 shots a person...Not to say the ladies couldn't handle their alcohol but this is beyond impossible...6 guys together would struggle to do this.
After much arguing with a manager and me being escorted out by Chad, we got the bill down to about 325 dollars. I have no idea what the total we had written down but it had to be at least half of this total...Still way off but what was the point in arguing. We haven't been back there since and don't plan on it.
There have been other times out with the
Grumman's that I won't talk about but this weekends event just shows they might be cursed...
We met up for Sean's 40t
h Birthday (yup, he's old) at Village Bistro. Decent time there and
surprisingly no issues with the bill! We head over to the Fox & Hound for drinks and whatnot afterwards. The rest of the night goes really well until we realize no one can drive home. I always have cab phone numbers so I start dialing....nothing on the first, nothing on the second....The third company tells me they do not pick people up out where we are (
Ballantyne). They provide me with a phone number to a random company, I somehow remember the number.
After 3 calls back to this company and no cab we are still stranded outside the bar. Chad and I wander around the parking lot, Sean and Caroline stay on the bench, Kate and Adrienne retreat to the car (to get warm).
I find a cab, knock on the window, scare the guy half to death...He can't take us, he already has random people in the back...We finally notice another cab has arrived and pile in. Meanwhile, Caroline is on her phone yelling at the cab company, thankfully another cab pulls up to get them. We all don't live that close to each other so it made sense to take two.
We make it home around 345 am...2 hours after my first call...No one is happy and the bill was rather large. I don't think
I've ever had a problem getting a cab anywhere. We decide the reason is the Grumman's (although its probably all our faults, but again, The Grumman Debacle sounds better).
That's all for now!
