Labor Day & Atlanta

Last weekend we went to Atlanta to visit with our friends the Wyatts (who traveled in from Portland). We spent a lot of time over at Kirsten's sister Ailie and her husband Brian's house. Here's Kirsten and her sis Ailie:
Kent and Kirsten's baby Elle is already 11 months old! She and Avery had fun playing with (fighting over?) toys and reading books. Avery also impressed everyone with her stellar dance moves. I'm telling you, this kid can groove! Both girls were crazy about Ailie's dog Peanut, too.

On Friday we visited the amazing Georgia Aquarium - by far the best aquarium I've ever been to. They had belugas, tiger sharks, sea otters, penguins, and these beautiful HUGE tanks with fish in them. It was truly an amazing place.
One of the most impressive things there was the "tunnel" that you could walk through. Sharks (which I am insanely afraid of) could swim right above you. It was so amazing I almost forgot to be scared...
Just as we finish walking through this tunnel Kirsten leans over to me and mentions she's thinking about what would happen if there was an earthquake and the tanks broke.
Um, THANKS KIRST!

Still, these massive tanks did not lose their charm. Breathtaking!
Avery seemed mesmerized by the belugas (notice head tilt) - I think we ALL were!:
Elle gets a lift from her Daddy:
Jeff touched a stingray!:
Elle thought that her mommy might want to try her paci for a bit:
Then once we got outside Ave tried to take a turn with Elle's paci:
And, of course, our family shot:
(Way to pay attention, Ave!)

During the tailgate on Saturday at Ailie's house we had a blast! The little girls were of course all over the place and though it was a bit exhausting chasing them around, we got a lot of time to catch up with friends.
Avery is all about sitting on laps... Elle was not so sure about this set-up:
The little ones were fascinated with the cooler of beer and kept breaking in to it despite our efforts to keep them away:
We couldn't resist giving the girls a bath together...

Avery NOT sharing:

And, now sharing:

On Saturday we also got to visit with my college friend Amanda and her family. She ironically lives in Portland too, and was out visiting her family in Atlanta the same time we were there. Sadly (why? why!) we didn't not take any photos. I must have been concentrating on catching up with them which is more important, but yet I have no photos to document our visit!

We'd like to say thanks to our lovely hosts, our fabulous friends, the awesome belugas and the city of Atlanta (minus the Friday traffic) for a fabulous weekend!

Here kitty, kitty... Avery is 15 months old!

15 months old, and get more curious by the day.

I caught Avery's hand in the cat's bowl the other day. The worst part is that when she turned around I realized she had already gotten a hold of several pieces of cat food and was chewing away with a weird look on her face. I dug several pieces out of her mouth, she dug more pieces out herself... then she proceeded to try and eat them again. Of course I stopped in the middle of all this and took a photo. Meow!
Speaking of cats, Avery and her kitty Stormie are besties! Avery follows Stormie around and gives her hugs constantly. Stormie loves her too.

Their favorites activities include looking out the front window at the street watching the birds, staring out the back window at the trees and the neighbor's dog, playing in the family room, tormenting Jack and tormenting Jack some more.

See, Jack picks on Stormie a lot - eats her food, chases her and has gotten really good at the sneak-attack... well now Avery picks on Jack and Jack finally has been put in his place. You can tell that Stormie thinks this is fabulous!

There is nothing Jack hates more than someone hovering over him while he is trying to eat. Except maybe a baby stealing his food. We try to prevent both as much as possible.

So, Avery is 15 months old today. And, I'm sure I've said this before... and I'll say it again... but this gets more fun every day! With the new phrases and words, the new discoveries and self-realizations. The look on Avery's face sometimes when she is sincerely pondering something we've said is priceless.

Other monthly highlights in Avery's words...
"Dude, why have y'all been holding out on me! REAL pizza is the BEST!":
"Do NOT take my coozies away from me":
"TP rolls are my new obsession":
"This is my favorite seat for watching Curious George":
"Being let loose at the park is the funnest!":
"I still am perfecting the art of "Hurricane Avery":
