Guns N' Roses

Guns N Roses Pictures, Images and Photos

I was trying to think of a blog to write (since we've been slacking) and this topic came to mind. Last weekend, Tony and I were talking about the perfect day, he suggested to me, video games and all the Guns N' Roses albums, and he got me thinking how great that sounded. So I decided why not tell a story about my childhood.

It was either late 1991 or early 1992, while riding up to Vermont with my parents and Brunt, I was listening to the new Guns N' Roses album, Use Your Illusion 2 on cassette. I had received both Use Your Illusion 1 (from Trevor Roberts) and 2 for my birthday and hadn't mentioned the explicit lyrics label to the folks. Well, somehow my Dad, got a hold of the tape liner and read the lyrics to "Get in the Ring," out loud. I won't even mention what was said but it was pretty traumatizing at the time! That was the last time I saw both of the tapes, my parents claim to have thrown them in the fire place.

A few years later, while visiting my sister and her husband in South Carolina, I came across Use Your Illusion 2 in their collection of music. I was able to successfully borrow it (let me know when you want that back) without my parents noticing!

To this day I think those albums are some of the best rock albums with one of the best songs and music videos of all time, "November Rain."

I still enjoy the music on all their albums (Who doesn't get pumped up when they here Welcome To The Jungle??), including the latest "Guns" album, with only Axl Rose remaining. I asked Kate the other day if we could name our first boy, Axl White. She gave me a look and I immediately crossed that name of the list, but it was worth a shot! There is a website that specializes in "rocker" clothing and they do have some available Guns N' Roses onesies and t-shirts...so, you'll be seeing Baby White America in one soon enough!

Summer Rental

This weekend, Kate and I took in one of my favorite movies, Summer Rental. This movie still cracks me up, reminds me of why pirates are cool and how awesome John Candy was! It's a solid rental for those who enjoy "family" comedies, by the end of it, you'll wish you could take a month off from work to head to the beach with your family!

A few highlights or my favorite parts....

1. Chester (John Candy) and Scully (Rip Torn) get drunk at the Barnacle...the darts scene cracks me up.

2. Waiting in line for dinner. The restaurant reminds me of the Privateer, a place my family used to go to near Kiawah Island. They even have the lobster tank right out front!

3. "Daddy I peed the bed." John Candy's response, "No sweetie, you peed their bed."

4. The stereotypical "Building stuff" 80's music montage. Think back to almost every 80's movie you've seen and there is one of these scenes. Another great one, Revenge of the Nerds (Fixing the house).

5. Kerri Green- Every single guy growing up in the 80's had a crush on her. If you aren't sure of who I'm talking about, she played Andy in The Goonies!

Definitely check out this flick!!

20 weeks down, 20 weeks to go!

In honor of today being our half way point to baby, I have decided to post my first blog!

It's actually quite strange to think that we are only half way there, because I feel like I have already been pregnant forever. So, from this point on I expect to get even more uncomfortable and huge... but if everything goes as smoothly as the first half, we should be ok! :)

In other news, today is FREEZING... it's supposed to hit 30 degrees, however currently it is hovering in the low 20's. Fortunately it's sunny, because it helps to distract from the fact that it is going to get down to something like 12 degrees tonight! (My Ohio blood has certainly thinned out. Just looked on weather.com and they are currently at -7. No, thanks!)

I don't have any lists of my favorite movies, but I would like to point out that Jeff said last week that the Will Smith movie '7 pounds' looked so bad that he would rather go see 'Bride Wars' with me. I have no idea where that came from, but I think I will take him up on that!

Thus ends my first blog ever.
